ANNA MEANS ‘MOTHER’ IN THE ALGONQUIN TRIBE. ‘MOTHER’ IS SUCH A STRONG AND POWERFUL WORD LOADED WITH MEANINGS AND IMAGERY. TO ME ITS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT AND BEAUTIFUL WORDS IN MANKIND'S VOCABULARY.
THIS IS THE IDEAL NAME FOR THIS PIECE BECAUSE I WAS LUCKY TO WITNESS THIS HORSE'S CHARACTER WITH THE HERD FOR SEVERAL DAYS. THIS LOVELY MARE IS TRULY THE ‘MOTHER’ OF THE HERD OF MARES AT RETURN TO FREEDOM. SHE IS THE ONE TO COMMAND EVERYONE’S ATTENTION. SHE IS THE ONE TO SET THE TONE WITHIN THE HERD. SHE WAS STEADFAST, ENDEARING, ALERT, AND ALWAYS ‘AVAILABLE’ TO DIRECT HER HERD AS WELL AS THE ANXIOUS PHOTOGRAPHER LOOKING TO SOAK UP HER ABILITY TO PERFORM ON DEMAND.
WOMEN AND MOTHERS ALIKE PLAYED A VERY IMPORTANT ROLE IN THE LIFE OF THE NATIVE AMERICANS – THEIR STRENGTH WAS ESSENTIAL TO THE SURVIVAL OF THE TRIBES. I BELIEVE THAT THIS MARE IS ALSO ESSENTIAL TO HER HERD.
