TAKEWI IS THE WORD FOR WIND IN THE OMAHA TRIBE LANGUAGE.
WHEN I SET OUT TO PHOTOGRAPH THE WILD MUSTANGS FOR MY SECOND SERIES I HAD ONLY TWO GOALS. FIRST, TO BE FULLY PRESENT AND IN THE MOMENT TO MYSELF, MY ENVIRONMENT AND THE ANIMALS I WAS PHOTOGRAPHING. AND SECONDLY, TO GET GREAT BLURR. TO NAIL A GOOD BLUR OF RUNNING WILD ANIMALS IN AN UNCONTROLLABLE AND CONSTANTLY CHANGING ENVIRONMENT IS PRETTY CHALLENGING TO SAY THE LEAST. I WAS THRILLED WITH THESE IMAGES. MY GOAL WAS TO CAPTURE MOVEMENT, COMPOSITION, AND SHAPE SO THAT THE WILD MUSTANGS TOOK ON MORE OF A 'FINE ART' FEEL - MORE CONCEPTUAL. THIS SHOT IS STRAIGHT FROM THE CAMERA, THERE IS NO POST RETOUCHING TO CREATE THESE LINES.
I NAMED THREE OF MY BLURR IMAGES IN THIS SERIES EARTH, WIND AND FIRE. THIS IMAGE FELT LIKE 'WIND' TO ME. THE AIRY NATURE AND FEEL OF THE FRONT HORSES DISSOLVING LEGS CREATES A SURREAL EXPERIENCE WITHIN THIS IMAGE. EVEN THE SHADOW APPEARS TO FLOAT IN THIS IMAGE.
